About Us

How We Got Started

Rennea Couttenye, a Venezuelan musician and teacher living in San Francisco, CA, expressed her desire to connect deeply with her country and make a significant contribution to it.

Maurizio Gigola, storyteller and film director, figured how to help her make her dream come true. He proposed to make a film together based in Venezuela. She could pick a topic.

She chose music – to document Venezuelan music as played in its most authentic context and see who it is expanding globally.

In 2018 they started the project: Venezuelan Music Movie. The working title of the feature documentary is Cambur Pintón.

Our Aim Is

• To lift the spirit of humankind with a moving piece of art
• To feature authentic people, making art and music in their territory
• To show the craft and art of luthiers; the dance and music of diverse regions seldom seen in mainstream media
• To discover the influence of Venezuelan’s unique rhythms in the world music scene
• To not forget our roots: Venezuela is a country with severe social, economic, health and political difficulties; subsequently, some cultural expressions are vanishing. Yet, there is musical growth, a proliferation of artists, dignified culture-keepers and international connections arising.

Rennea Couttenye, producer and co-director. She is the artist-storyteller of Cambur Pintón. Previous to this movie she has led businesses in the textile design industry and education. She is the founder of Español for Kids, a program to teach Spanish as a second language. Music is an integral part of her life, and she performs music and stories from Mexico to Tierra del Fuego to local and international audiences.

Maurizio Gigola, director and co-producer. He recently completed the feature documentary Gualtiero Marchesi: The Great Italian, which opened at Cannes in 2018, and can be viewed on Amazon. In addition to the Cambur Pintón, he works between Italy and the United States, developing a cross-media platform project about Italian identities.

Caupolican Ovalles y Beatriz Aranguren, producers. They are a husband and wife team with over a decade of film and TV production in Venezuela. Their fourth feature-length movie, “Muerte en Berruecos” premiered in 2018. Caupolicán is currently the president of ACAV Academia de Cine de Venezuela and HIPA Hispanic Independent Producers of America.
